My Trip to Nara

A view down a commercial sidestreet in Nara.
Deer roamed the temple grounds freely. Here's my momtrying to feed one.
The others got the memo right quick.
The 5-story pagoda.
Another temple building.
Just to show you how little there was separating the deer from a busy street - just a low wooden rail.
I loved these signs. The illustrations say it pretty clearly.
Here are some huge lanterns, with my dad for scale.
A deer statue. Deer were thought to be messangers from the gods, and thus it was forbidden to hunt them.
Since it was so close to New Years, most of the temples were closed to prepare.
This young deer hasn't had his horns filed down yet.
My dad taking a picture - a familiar picture on this trip.
This temple was absolutely huge...
...and inside was a gigantic Buddah, fittingly enough. This doesn't really give a scale, but trust me, it's huge.
Here's a slightly smaller companion to Buddah.
This is a replica of the spire on top of the 5-story pagoda built for a World's Fair.
I love the decorated manhole covers throughout Japan. The larger cities color theirs.
