Odori Park

A bad picture of the clock tower. This dominates one block of the park, but since the park runs the length of the city (I think), there are plenty of other things to see
Some of the grass and picnic area in the next block
More park area and one of the many fountains
There are small flower gardens every few meters, and I thought this flower looked nice, so here's a picture
Here's another one of those flower gardens. This park is gorgeous in the summer. I wonder what they do when it's covered in snow all winter
Here's that fountain again along with some background buildings. As I mentioned at one point, this park is one block long and separates the east and west sections of the city (the whole place is layed out using a nice easy grid system)
A statue and some more flower gardens
Another fountain from a grassy area
A bit closer view as the above picture from the same side
Here's one of the more elaborate flower gardens
A bit better view of the clock tower
This isn't actually in Odori Park. It"s the Sapporo government center (I think) and a very nice building. Mostly ceremonial from what I can tell. It has a museum and everything. I may actually be lieing about that government center bit
Ok, back to the park. Another fountain/monument with cool lion faces on it. In the background you can see some school kids getting ready for some sort of parade that took place later. (No pictures of that, sorry)
Another view of the kids preparing. This was only one group. There were a ton scattered around the park that day
A cool piece of sculpture/slide. Most excellent really. There's a full-fledged playground on the other side of this baby
Another flower box
A shot of some nearby buildings, just cause I thought it looked cool
This is from the window of a bookstore near the park. They don't much like Bush in Sapporo (or anywhere in Japan that I've been) and as you can see, Michael Moore is fairly popular for a foreign political author. As a backdrop to this, there were vans with loud speakers (the preferred method of campaigning in Japan) in the nearby park. I couldn't follow everything they said, but the word America came up repeatedly and they didn't sound terribly reverent when they said it.
