Hamaton Elementary School 2nd Graders Halloween Party

Akari-chan poses as we set up to make potato dango
Kaisei-kun is another favorite of mine from the ikiiki. He's the one who seems to be off in his own world as often as not, but he's still fun to play around with.
That's Tokio (yes, pronounced a lot like Tokyo) on the left. I can't remember the girls' names.
The dangos on the frier.
You have to watch yourself around these two kids. Particularly your butt. Seriously, if they're in the room, and you can't see them, make sure they aren't sneaking up behind you, fingers ready to penetrate you to the knuckles. These are the Kanchou Kids. Be careful not to guard too carefully though or they might just decide to settle for a punch to the nuts. Yes, this sort of thing is apparently tolerated in Japan.
After breakfast, it was time for the party to begin. First, a song.
Then, Mummy Wrap! Just imagine mummies and toilet paper and you'll get an idea of the game pretty quickly. The kids love it though.
Fastest team wins!
Kaisei was one of the volunteers.
Some groups decided to go for the eyes first
Here's the board. It says "Halloween Party" if you're curious. And even if you're not, really.
Almost done with the wrapping
Kaisei's group lagged a bit
Wait... who does she think I'm trying to take a picture of here?
This kid's the biggest in the grade and probably the most mature too. A good ally to have.
Ahhh, there's some good wrapping.
Mrs. Hori taking pictures of the finished groups.
And the other half of the room.
Classic Japanese poses... well, the mummy's not too standard.
Next, magic! Sadly, the performance didn't quite go as planned, so we moved on quickly.
Next game was in the gym: Pass the Vampire Bat. Basically line the kids up, give them straws, and have them pass a paper bat from straw to straw until the end. I had one kid who couldn't grasp the concept of sucking, but other than that it went well. Even Akari-chan managed to participate without a problem.
Oops! Dropped it.
Next, a dance, complete with costumes.
Here's that big kid again.
Tokio: the Japanese Harry Potter
Last game was the balloon relay. Keep the balloon in the air while you run back and forth.
This girl (I want to say her name is Risa) is the daughter of one of the people who works near me at City Hall. She had a crush on me last year, but I think it's gotten better recently.
Lunch time! All through elementary and junior high kids serve lunch in turns and eat in lunch groups. This actually looks like cleanup at the end of lunch.
And after lunch is teeth-brushing time, usually to music in the lower elementary grades. Much more optional when the kids get older.
