Asahikawa Zoo

Just hanging around
It was cool how close you could get to the animals. Mind you, there was no cage above this penguin and the camera wasn't zoomed in at all. The glass wall was only about waist height too... I could have easily reached right in and grabbed myself a penguin.
A polar bear... I forgot my flash was on here and enraged the beast. He killed 2 zookeepers and maimed 7 others before they managed to bring him down with a barrage of tranqualizer darts. They really should have tried that first.
Some monkeys. Everyone loves monkeys. Unless you've had to deal with them in the wild, of course.
A red panda... man these things are cute.
Remember what I said about being able to reach out and touch the penguins? You could do the same to the leopards... yeah. You could walk right under that cage, and I wouldn't have even had to jump to touch the fur. Stretch, yes, but not jump.
Here's a bored, bored lioness.
And a tiger. Those stripes do work.
Another monkey. You can never have too many monkeys.
Finally, a rhino. I felt sorry for him, the elephant, and the hippo. Their cages were tiny expanses of bare concrete and not much else.
